When I was three, I took a twelve-step program to overcome my shyness and I haven't looked back! Meeting new people (and their cultures) and being in nature are my passions. Doing that with my wife--Bonus! I have spent the better part of the last 18 years managing building and renovation projects for schools and medical clinics in Tibet and Cambodia. Now, I'm ready to hit the road again--time is precious, and there are more people to meet and trails to explore. So why wait? "Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life..." Jack Kerouac
I was conceived on a slow boat from the US to Denmark back in 1960, and have been traveling ever since as a tourist, a backpacker and an international tuberculosis specialist. I've weathered countless parasites, survived near-death rafting experiences, and evaded arrest in countries from A to Z, but I still can't get enough of being out and about, meeting new friends, experiencing different cultures, and soaking in the breathtaking beauty of this precious planet.
D'Arcy: I've worked long hours on global TB elimination for a long time and about 5 years ago on a 14-hour plane ride back from a work trip to China, I started thinking about how Scott and I needed to have something to look forward to so we could keep working for the next few years without getting completely burned out. After a couple of glasses of pretty good Cabernet, I had it!--We would take 60 weeks off when we turned 60 to celebrate, hike, fly fish, and adventure around the world before we get too old or infirm to enjoy ourselves.
Scott: I went to pick D'Arcy up at the San Francisco airport and as soon as she got in the car she said "I got it! We're going to do 60at60!" And I said "Great! WTF is that?" When she described it, I was 150% on board...60at60 was born!!
Since that day, we've found so many more reasons to make this trip, some happy and some heartbreaking, but the goal remains the same: to live every day to the fullest and appreciate all the joy and beauty this wide world has to offer...we hope you enjoy traveling along with us!!
